Support iSMSS

iSMSS stands as a unique model in Canada and is the only office of its kind housed within a Faculty of Education in North America. You can support the groundbreaking work of the Institute by making a charitable donation to the following special projects:

Lighting the Way Fund

This unrestricted fund allows iSMSS to develop innovative projects such as our new nohomophobes.com initiative. This fund also helps us to support new research-based educational programs, community outreach activities, and allows us to bring world-renowned queer scholars to provide public lectures and to work with our students.

Camp fYrefly

This unrestricted fund supports the Institute's award-winning Camp fYrefly
leadership program for sexual-minority youth. A donation of $300.00 pays the
food and accommodation costs for one youth to attend Camp fYrefly. Send a
kid to camp and give them the chance you never had!

Michael Phair Leadership Award Endowment

Each year iSMSS offers a $1000.00 leadership award to an undergraduate student who exemplifies Michael Phair’s commitment to the advancement of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified, two-spirited, or queer communities. Our goal is to double the value of this award as a tribute to Michael Phair’s pioneering contributions to human and civil rights for sexual minorities in Alberta.

All donations to the above funds are eligible for a charitable tax deduction receipt from the University of Alberta.

If you would like more information on how you can establish an undergraduate or graduate scholarship, award, prize, bursary, or endowment to help support sexual-minority students and research, please contact us and help “light the way” for the next generation of leaders.
