Dr. Kristopher Wells is an Assistant Professor and iSMSS Faculty Director, Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services, University of Alberta. With Dr. Andre P. Grace he is the Co-Founder of Camp fYrefly, which is Canada’s only national leadership retreat for sexual and gender minority youth. Kris is the author of the Alberta Government’s new homophobic and transphobic bullying and gay-straight alliance resources.

During his varied career as an educator and researcher, Kris has served as a consultant to the Canadian Senate, Canadian Museum of Human Rights, Canadian Teachers’ Federation, Alberta Teachers’ Association, Alberta Government, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Edmonton Police Service, Edmonton Public Schools, Public Health Agency of Canada, UNESCO, and the World Health Organization. Currently, he serves as the Book Review Editor for the International Journal of LGBT Youth (Taylor & Francis) and is a Board Member for REACH Edmonton, which is a centre for excellence focused on crime prevention and community safety. Kris is a frequently invited national and international speaker on sexual and gender minority youth issues. His most recent co-authored publication is entitled, Supporting Transgender and Transsexual Students in K-12 Schools: A Guide for Educators, published by the Canadian Teachers’ Federation. Internationally, Kris’ most recent project NoHomophobes.com has been featured across the world in more than 50 publications including the Economist, Atlantic, Independent, and Guardian. In 2014, Kris was recognized with the Alberta Teachers’ Association’s Public Education Award for his outstanding contributions to public education.
