The Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services at the University of Alberta leads research that changes attitudes, and delivers services that change lives.
Hundreds of sexual and gender minority (SGM) youth have been helped by Camp fYrefly and other programs. Projects like NoHomophobes.com have raised the awareness of millions of people around the world of the homophobic language used in daily online conversation.
This is groundbreaking work that is leading social change, and helping build a more just society for everyone.
We have been successful with limited resources. With your support we can do even more.
Watch to see first hand the impact that iSMSS is making
The potential to make a substantial and immediate impact on the lives of SGM youth in Alberta, throughout Canada and internationally has never been greater.
Through a new campaign to raise over $5 million, we are seeking to
expand Camp fYrefly into a national program;
expand research programs and services;
train the next generation of researchers and recruit master, doctoral, and postdoctoral students from across Canada and the world;
create an endowment to help support core operating funding.
Knowing you have profoundly changed a young person’s life for the better is a feeling beyond compare.
